Each year, the Steam store tries to remind us how fun it is to buy a dozen new video games for a price that would get you a single game at any other time of year, and they usually succeed. The 2012 holiday season has proven no exception, with severe discounts on dozens of very popular titles and more publisher packs than they've had in previous seasons, with bundle prices ranging from "a good deal" to "ludicrously cheap." Steam is also giving us specific deals which rotate daily.

Attempting to describe what they're offering in full would be an exercise in futility, but in case you need some persuasion to go check out the sale pages, here are some of the details. As of this writing, the entire Prince of Persia, Hitman, Borderlands, Darksiders, Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike, and Tomb Raider franchises are all listed at 50-75% off, as are Fable III, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Wargame: European Escalation, Natural Selection 2, Civilization V, The Witcher 2, Assassin's Creed III and a couple dozen other games. There are also more games marked anywhere from 10-45% off retail price than I could feasibly list here.

The real insanity is in the publisher packs. Available right now are packs from THQSquare EnixUbisoft2KBethesdaSega, andValve, in addition to the Indie Super Mega Pack. Most of these packs are selling for $50-90 USD, a massive discount over buying all the games individually. The THQ pack, for instance, is the cheapest one available at the moment with a price of $25, yet contains over $200 worth of games.

Whether you're looking to expand your own collection or find a last-minute holiday gift, these deals are worth checking out.
